Venture Team Claims the Brian Boru County Venture Sword Challenge
Our Venture Scout team has returned from the Brian Boru County Venture Sword Challenge with plenty to be proud of after an excellent weekend at Lisburn Scout Woodland from 3rd – 5th July.
The team attended the full weekend competition, taking part in a wide range of activities designed to test their scouting skills, teamwork and resilience. Although they were the only team officially entered this year, they were assessed against the same standards as any other competition and approached every challenge with enthusiasm and determination.
Their efforts paid off with an impressive Silver Level Award, finishing just a few marks short of achieving Gold. The result reflects the hard work, commitment and positive attitude shown by the team throughout the weekend.
During the competition, the Ventures faced a variety of challenges. Campcraft skills were put to the test as they demonstrated their ability to live and work effectively in the outdoors. They also took part in a competition cooking challenge, producing a meal under scrutiny from the judges, and showcased their creativity and confidence through their sketch performance.
The weekend also included a number of teamwork and problem solving bases where communication, leadership and cooperation were key. Adding an extra dimension to the event, the winning Scout Training Team from the County Shield competition joined the weekend to provide an additional challenge, giving our Ventures another opportunity to test their skills and work together under pressure.
One of the most memorable activities was a special base where participants had the opportunity to work with katana swords and sai. It was a unique experience and a fitting addition to an event carrying the name “Venture Sword”, providing a fun and engaging challenge that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
The weather offered a typical mix of summer conditions, with warm temperatures punctuated by periods of rain. While the occasional shower made some tasks a little more challenging, it certainly did nothing to dampen spirits. The team remained focused, positive and determined throughout the weekend.
Most importantly, the challenge highlighted everything that makes Venture Scouting so rewarding: developing skills, building confidence, working as a team and enjoying new experiences. Achieving a Silver Award and coming so close to Gold is a tremendous accomplishment and one that every member of the team should be proud of.
Congratulations to all the Ventures who took part and represented the County so well. Your effort, teamwork and enthusiasm were evident throughout the weekend, and this success is thoroughly deserved. We look forward to seeing what challenges you take on next.
